11:40 a.m.: Dogs attack Warren boy at bus stop

May 12, 2009 - Tribune Chronicle

WARREN - Two city police officers used shotguns to take down three dogs that attacked a 10-year-old northwest side boy who was waiting for a school bus this morning.

Devonte Jackson, of Merriweather Street N.W., was being treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital this morning for lacerations to the left side of the face and left hand, according to Sgt. Martin Gargas. The officer said the wounds weren't life threatening.

The 8:22 a.m. attack near the intersection of Merriweather and Commerce Avenue N.W. followed a separate 5 a.m. attack on a Tribune Chronicle newspaper carrier.

Jeremy Marsh, 21, of Belmont Street N.W., told police he was delivering a newspaper with his mother at 2846 Merriweather when the larger of the three dogs attacked him from behind, biting him on the back of the legs.

Marsh was treated at the same hospital.

Patrolmen Rubin Shaw and Terry Eddington located the three animals and killed them with shotguns from their cruisers.

Firefighters were called to the scene to clean up the remains of the dogs.

Animal Control Officer John Onatz took the dogs to veterinarians at Town and Country Veterinary Hospital where their remains were being examined for any illnesses.
