WARREN - Donald R. Doing, 77, of Warren, passed away at 11:13 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong Warren resident.

He was born May 28, 1931, in Warren, the son of the late Raymond and Ivah (Cox) Doing.

Donald was a 1949 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, where he played football, baseball and track, setting a school shot-put record. He retired from Copperweld Steel in 1986 after 33 years of service, where he started in the labor gang and retired as superintendent of transportation.

Donald was an ardent furniture and cabinet woodworker and for 40 years and loved Canadian Muskie fishing. He was the drummer with the Sam Delaquila Band for 30 years. Donald enjoyed big band and jazz music. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Elizabeth M. (Armstrong) Doing, whom he married March 28, 1952, and of whom he often said, "I asked God for a wife, and He gave me an Angel." He is also survived by a son, Donald O. Doing of Cortland; one daughter, Danette (Ron) Currey of Leavittsburg; four granddaughters, Stephanie (David) Weber, Elizabeth (Shawn) Snyder, Allison (Andy) Neal and Alexandria Doing; five great-grandchildren, Timothy, Jeremy, Elizabeth, Carrie and Callie; and one brother, Daniel Doing of Warren.

Arrangements are being handled by Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, with Pastor Dee Emmert officiating.

Entombment will be at Crown Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Vienna.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Celtic Hospice, 3530 Belmont Ave., Suite 7, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
