Thomas L. Marcarello 1927-2009

CORTLAND - Thomas L. Marcarello, 81, of Cortland, died at 5:11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in the emergency room at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Pleasant Unity, Pa., to Joseph and Mary Reina Marcarello. He moved to Cortland in 1989.

He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Youngstown State University for three years.

He retired in 1984 from Republic Steel Corp., having worked there since 1947, where he was an inquiry analyst in production planning.

He was a member of St. Robert's Church.

He enjoyed golf, working on and repairing cars, and traveling.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Helen Tura, whom he married June 24, 1950; a son, Jack (Tracy) Marcarello of Powell; two grandchildren, Thomas and Alyssa Marcarello; a brother, Matthew (Josephine) Marcarello of Bradenton, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Terry Marcarello of Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas Marcarello; four brothers, Tony, Joseph, Daniel and James Marcarello; and a sister, Rose Vecchione.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Robert's Church with celebrant the Rev. Carl G. Kish. Calling hours will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Robert's Church, 4659 Niles Cortland Road, Cortland 44410.
