Man gets one year for sexual battery
Tribune Chronicle
WARREN - A Newark man was sentenced to a year in prison Monday for sexual battery of a 16-year-old girl last year.
Evan A. McKenna, 44, had remained free on $50,000 bond until Monday's sentencing. He pleaded guilty to the third-degree felony charge of sexual battery a month ago. Another third-degree felony charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor was dismissed in exchange for the plea.
McKenna told Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter Kontos that he realized he had caused irreparable harm to the victim.
He was labeled a Tier 3 sex offender, requiring him to register quarterly with authorities for the rest of his life after he is released from prison.
Assistant County Prosecutor Michael Burnett said allegations were made during McKenna's trip to Trumbull County on business. His hometown of Newark is about 40 miles east of Columbus.
The indictment states that McKenna was in a position of authority at the time of the crime in June 2007, when Burnett said the defendant had sex with the teenager who was traveling with him. Both were staying at a room in a Niles motel, where the girl was given alcohol, Burnett said.
Third-degree felonies carry a penalty of between one and five years in prison.
The girl later told her boyfriend what happened and he told authorities, Burnett said.

Karrilyn it appears that emilybooher80 doesn't have much life experience. Sometimes the young people do not have the ability to learn from others mistakes, they have to get themselves in a bad situation to see that everyone else isn't crazy. My dad always said, "Your are judged by the company you keep." I do understand what he ment now.

Emily, they don't label people sex offenders if they didn't do anything. There are 3 sides to the story, his, hers, and the truth. I am sure if it were your daughter you would feel a little different about the situation. If I were you I would be a little more careful about my choice of friends.

emilybooher80, how about pondering being responsable and not sleeping with everyone everywhere. This is how AIDS and other STD's are spread. If I met someone and they wanted to sleep with me a couple of hours later I'd have to ask, How many other nights this person has done this. IT IS CALLED BEING RESPONSABLE. As for your friend with the little skank. He got what he deserved. I think one can tell the difference from 21 and 16. If not that person just don't care. If ever a question get ID.

first off none of you even know this man what really happened. second, ive known this man since i was 4 he would never hurt anyone. i know the girl also. so dont judge a book by its cover. know the whole story first. just because someone is listed as a sex offender doesnt ness. mean that they did something wrong. i have a friend also a sex offender who went to a bar and had a girl buying him drinks drinking with him and he spent the weekend with her thinking she was 21 after all she was buying drinks in a bar and drinking..after the weekend her momma came home and he found out she was only 16. got in trouble for a girl playing tricks on him. so tell me who was the victim there? do you realize how many people are label this and they really didnt do anything wrong? just ponder that for me.

oldgreenb, I see where you comming from there. They were apparently "a couple" (or something like that), but it's still wrong. really really wrong. As for what she thinks, she's a teenager. All teenagers are idiots until they're about 27 or so. HE should know better.

I think that any man or woman for that matter, shall be put to death for any acts done to a child or an elder. I look at my girls and think if anyone ever hurt them, or my mother, --I'd go to jail for murder BUT they would NEVER find the body.

The law, appropriately, draws a distinction between levels of pedophilia. A sexual offender who molests a 16 year old is treated differently than one who molests a 5 year old. Some of the blame CAN (not necessarily does) fall on a 16 year old, whereas NONE of it can be transferred to a 5 year old. This doesn't lessen the adult's responsibility to make the CHOICE to keep his/her hands (and other body parts) to him/herself. Many girls at age 16, and even probably as young as 14 can look and act like they're much older. Sexual molestation of children under 12 should be considered a capital crime under certain circumstances, and all sexual offenders of victims under 12 should be castrated and segregated from the rest of society, That's just my humble opinion as a father and member of society.

The sex better of been good, because you just ruined this 16 year olds life and you're own (to a lesser extent). Sorry, I can't think of an excuse for this scum bag. If "not being able to live near schools" is the worst punishment you get, I hope there's a spcialplace for you in hell.

This man should have his penis whacked off by the 16 yr old girl. But she isn't that innocent. Mom and Pop should feel proud on raising such a nice girl, NOT!! Where were the parents in this case, Oh maybe working 4 jobs to support the family or the local corner store stocking up on their Beer, lotter, and cigarettes.

A 44 year old man having sex with a 16 year old girl. What is that matter with the judge that he only gave this Pedophile one year. He should have gotten at least 5. So after a year he gets out, the system knows he likes little girls, and he does it again. What a shame.
