Love not spoiled by football rivalry

Ohio State vs. Michigan

BAZETTA - For Rich Randall of Howland, love trumps football.

All one had to do Saturday is look at him and his girlfriend, Regina Kagy.

Randall was decked out in Ohio State gear. Kagy was bedecked in the maize and blue of the Buckeyes' most-hated rival, the University of Michigan.

The pair were on hand at a tailgate party in the parking lot of the Warren Harley-Davidson dealership watching the game.

Randall said the fact the two root for separate teams is ''no big deal,'' but one wonders what his attitude would be if Ohio State wasn't on a 5-game winning streak against the Wolverines that included a 42-7 thrashing Saturday.

Kagy said she is driven by revenge of a different sort to root for the Wolverines.

''My ex is an Ohio State fan,'' Kagy said before adding, ''I wasn't a Buckeye fan anyway.''

Randall said early in the first quarter he was leery of an upset by the Wolverines.

''You always gotta be nervous for that if it's Michigan,'' Randall said.

Ohio State has won six of their last seven against Michigan, which ends the season at 3-9. The nine losses are the most ever for a squad that wears the Maize and Blue. It is the first time the Wolverines have had a losing season in 41 years and the first time they have missed out on a bowl game in over 30 years.

Jason Thompson of Parkman had no sympathy for the Wolverines.

''I have no pity for Michigan,'' Thompson said.

Corey Metzenroth of the Harley shop said all proceeds raised from the tailgate party, which included games, would be given to the Warren Family Mission.

This is the way it should be. To hate someone because of the college team they follow is stupid.
