Apple lovers will have a great weekend as two local communities will be holding their annual apple cider festivals this weekend, complete with games, contests, parades and food.
In northeastern Trumbull County will be the Hartford Apple Festival. The Lordstown Apple Cider Festival will take place in southwestern Trumbull County. Both festivals will be held Friday to Sunday.l HARTFORD
Belinda Skertic with the Hartford festival committee said the festival will take place at the intersection of state routes 7 and 305.
Opening ceremonies, flag raising by scouts and dedication of the Veterans of Foreign Wars monument will kick off the festival at 6 p.m. Friday in Hartford.
The queen ceremony will be at 7 p.m., with the queen dance from 9 to 11 p.m. with music provided by Mobile Music-Dan Messersmith.
On Saturday, breakfast will be from 7 to 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall, a 5k race and crafters/flea market at 9 a.m., children's bike parade at 10:30 a.m., pet parade at 11 a.m., children's games at 11:30 a.m., flag raising and historical society display in township hall at noon, DJ Judd from noon to 3 p.m., children's tractor pull and Gospel Sunshine the clown at 1 p.m., parade at 6 p.m. with participants to register at corner of Bushnell-Campbell Road and Hartford-Five Points Road, and local bands from 8 p.m. to midnight.
On Sunday, breakfast will be from 7 to 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall, church service at 11 a.m., flag raising at noon, line dancing from 1 to 3 p.m., apple pie eating contest and car cruise-in at Hartford United Methodist Church at 1 p.m., apple peeling contest at 2 p.m., arm wrestling at 3:30 p.m. and music from 6 to 9 p.m.
Brown Amusement will provide rides at the Hartford festival. There will also be local church booths, scout booths and food vendors.
Sharon Dietz of the Lordstown festival committee said the festivities will begin on Friday with the Lordstown Christian Church chicken dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. at the high school, and the Apple Cider king and queen pageant at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, there will be free blood pressure and eye screenings from the Doctors of Ohio Eye Alliance sponsored by the Lordstown Lions Club from noon to 3 p.m., car show with DJ Stevie B from noon to 3 p.m., craft, quilt and culinary arts show from noon to 8 p.m., one-room schoolhouse museum open house from 1 to 3 p.m., Little Prince and Princess contest at 2 p.m., Lordstown Athletic Boosters spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m., Panyard Steel Drum Trio from 6 to 9 p.m. and fireworks by Zambelli at 10 p.m.
On Sunday, the Earth Angel Day Care and Preschool pancake brunch will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school, Harvest Point Church service at 10 a.m., flower show and other exhibits from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., parade at 3 p.m. with grand marshal Robert Platt, CEO of American Way Manufacturing, Freedom Cloggers, Fun Time Cloggers, Free Spirit Cloggers and Rock N Country Cloggers from 4 to 6 p.m., and Happy Hearts Jr. Taburitzans from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Sam's Amusements will provide rides for the Lordstown festival. There also will be Bingo and quilt, photo, fine arts, domestic arts, flower and culinary arts shows.
