Residents can volunteer for PlanHowland, give feedback

August 31, 2008
By MARK ZUPPO Howland Community News

In order to preserve and enhance the quality of life in Howland Township, township officials, in conjunction with the Community Planning Steering Committee, have begun updating the township's Comprehensive Community Plan.

On Aug. 8, an online community survey was made available at www.planhowland.com. The 23-question survey, which will be up until early September, can be found by selecting the "Community Survey" tab in the left-hand column of the Web site.

During the survey, residents will be asked to rate the township's various services and quality of life issues, as well as select which township issues and activities are most important to them.

The Web site was created to highlight this unique and special community planning process. At the Web site, residents can not only take the online community survey to help guide the community plan, but they can also find a wealth of information concerning the planning process.

This is the first step of many. This fall, Howland Township residents will be able to attend community forums to assist the steering committee in developing a new community logo and will participate in visioning sessions.

Residents who do not own a computer can utilize public computers at the Howland Public Library, 9095 E. Market St. The hours of operation for the library are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The online survey will run for three weeks, with the results of the survey being finalize in September.

The township's last plan was completed in 1998. With new growth and other activities occurring within the township over the past 10 years, it is important for a new community survey to occur. Please join us at the www.planhowland. com Web site to complete the online survey. We look forward to hearing from you!
