NILES - Ronald E. Simko Sr., 73, 47 Woodland Chase Blvd., died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Mr. Simko was born July 31, 1935, in McKeesport, Pa., a son of John and Mary Demko Simko.
A member of the Niles First Christian Church, he had been employed by the General Motors Corp. as an assembler and auditor for a total of 27 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Carrol F. Clapp Lodge 655 F&AM, and was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rites of Youngstown.
For many years, Ron coached in the Niles Youth Baseball and Softball leagues. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and his yearly six-month stay in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1953 to 1957, during the end of yjr Korean War.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Jaye; his father; and a brother, John Jr.
He is survived by his wife, the former Glenna O'Connor, whom he married March 16, 1957; his mother of Confluence, Pa.; a son, Ronald E. Jr. of Warren; two daughters, Wendy (Bako) Wagner and her husband, Mark, Melissa Martin and her husband, William H. Sr., all of Warren; a brother, George of Elizabeth, Pa.; two sisters, Dolores Dugan of Confluence, Pa., Mary Lou Warrington of Manchester, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren, Bobby Bako, Kelly Bako, Billy Martin Jr., Eric Simko, Kurtis Simko, Christopher Martin, and Elyssa Simko.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home, with the Rev. Don Wright officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the Carrol F. Clapp Masonic Lodge will hold a service at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery, where Mr. Simko will be honored by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard for his dedication and service to our country.
Arrangements and care has been entrusted to the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home, 614 Warren Ave., Niles.
