BRISTOL - A woman died as firefighters from seven communities battled a structure fire early Tuesday that took out a pizza shop near the intersection of state routes 45 and 88 and trapped two people who were living in an upstairs apartment.

Matt Balut, assistant chief of the Trumbull County fire Investigation Unit, identified the two residents of the second-floor apartment as Sherry Seemann, who died of apparent smoke inhalation, and her father, William Seemann, who was taken to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital and then a hospital in Akron and appeared to be in serious condition. He said Mr. Seemann appeared to be in his 70s and his daughter in her 40s.

Balut said the 7:55 a.m. fire appears to be accidental and started in the rear of the first-floor Pizza Express, 1832 Greenville Road (state route 88) operated by Seemann's son Doug, a Bristol township trustee and who lives next door to the scene of the blaze.

Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation issued an alert at 8:35 a.m., saying state Route 88 at the scene of the blaze was closed. A detour was set up temporarily.

Firefighters from Bristol, Champion, Bloomfield, Bazetta, Mecca, Farmington and Orwell fought the fire.

This was my cousin Sherri who died, and my Uncle Bill who is still in critical condition. In light of that, let me just say that I understand both Skeels and goodsport's comments, as well as all your followups. My bothers and sister and I don't even know what we can do for Doug, so I'm not surprised that someone outside the family has trouble knowing what to say and what to do. I have read all these comments and realize EVERYONE is trying to figure out what to say, and that everyone feels horrible about the accident. Thanks.

Only in Trumbull county can someone be so miserable as to make such a stupid comment. You know what..? The pizza was great and that is part of the tragedy because someone also lost their income in addition to someone losing their life. The whole darn thing is sad sad sad. Skeels your comment was fine...some people are just plain miserable and need to complain about everything.

Goodsport - you must be simple minded. Read Skeels comment again and consider the context in which the comment was made. The context was not bad. It's a tradgedy, and we all agree.

I guess that answered my question from this morning, it started in the kitchen (I'm assuming).

That's sad when something unintentional happens like that. I didn't hear of any firemen getting injured, that's good news.
