Earl E. McElrath 1917-2008

HARTFORD — Earl E. McElrath, 90, passed away Thursday morning, May 8, 2008, at his residence in Hartford.

Earl was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Hartford, the son of William and Mattie White McElrath.

He was employed by Packard Electric in Warren. He retired in 1982 as a material handler after working 32 years.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 11th Armored Division under General George Patton.

Earl was a charter member of the Hartford Community Church, a member of the former Hartford Grange 1479, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3535, and a former member of the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Cletus ‘‘Dee’’ McDonald McElrath, whom he married June 28, 1947; two sons, Donald (Sue) McElrath of Kent and Gary (Lisa) McElrath of Brookfield; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Mahoney, Kristina (Patrick) Cupples, Richard (Michelle) McElrath, Cory Stillion and Thomas McElrath; one great-granddaughter, December McElrath; a sister, Mae Seaborn of Cortland; and a brother, Dio (Raimie) McElrath of Prescott, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald McElrath.

Friends and relatives may call 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Hartford Community Church. A military service will follow, provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard. Burial will be at Hartford Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the Hartford Community Church, P.O. Box 38, Hartford 444424.
