1 p.m.: Editorial board calls for Dann's resignation
Updated at 1 p.m.By Tribune Chronicle
POSTED: May 2, 2008
WARREN — The editorial board of the Tribune Chronicle announced Friday that it will call for Marc Dann’s resignation in an editorial to appear on its Web site today and in its Saturday print edition.
In October of 2006, the Tribune placed its support behind Marc Dann over Betty Montgomery in the race for Attorney General of Ohio. The newspaper’s editorial board said it believed that Dann’s tenacity made him the better candidate.
However, in light of announcements made during two press conferences today and the events that have transpired over the past month, the Tribune announced that it now apologizes for that endorsement.
Dann admitted an affair with a fellow employee. He publicly apologized to his wife and children.
Earlier today, Anthony Gutierrez was fired for violating the office’s sexual harassment policy, and Communications Chief Leo Jennings was fired for trying to get an office employee to lie under oath. Policy director Edgar Simpson was forced to resign because Simpson did not report inappropriate behavior in the office.

Mr. Hume. A voice of reason. I agree. If you have politicians resign because of affairs we would have no politicians left!

You guys (Tribune Chronicle) was the first in line to hump Dann's left leg when he was running for office and now that the shiat hit the fan you throw him under the bus. The Plain Dealer and the Columbus dispatch did everything they could to make sure this guy wasn't elected... you know why?... BECAUSE THEY FRIGGEN RESEARCH THE CANDIDATE BEFORE THEY BLINDLY ENDORSE HIM.

I disagree with your call for Marc Dann's resignation. Obviously, he has made mistakes both personal and professional for which he has apologized. But on the policy level, his work as Attorney General has been outstanding. Marc was elected by the people of Ohio, and has not done anything that disqualies him from continuing to serve. As he made evident at his press conference, he is fully prepared to continue to address the problems of Ohioans such as predatory lending and consumer fraud, and his office has been particularly effective in enhancing and modernizing law enforcement. In an ironic twist, at the very time of the investigation of sexual harassment in the Attorney General's office, Marc Dann was filing a U.S. Supreme Court Brief advocating the protection of individuals who provide evidence of sexual harassment. My point is that on issues of substance, Marc Dann is on the side of the people. He should should continue to serve the people of Ohio as Attorney General.

I agree with the board. Marc Dann should resign. During his campaign for office he criticized numerous people for their conduct, and stood for open and honest government. Now that he has been elected his actions have shown that this was all false bravado. He has created another black eye for our area. Dann should resign now. ciance
