Mary C. Phillips 1914-2008
Mary C. Phillips, 93, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, in Wheatfield, N.Y.
She was born July 2, 1914, in Williamsfield, the daughter of Charles and Mabel Overmoyer.
After college, she taught elementary grades in Wayne Central Schools and in a one-room schoolhouse in Rock Creek. She and her husband moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where they founded Phil-leys, E-Z Just Products, manufacturers of model airplane accessories. She was active in the American Field Service and led two senior citizen groups and the Home Bureau.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and crafts. In her later years, she returned to college to learn computer skills and made custom cards containing scanned photos. While in New Mexico she adopted Tiffany, a dog who stayed by her side for many years. Those who knew and loved her will greatly miss her.
Survivors include two sons, Charles of Petaluma, Calif., and Robert of Grand Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, E. Ellwood “Red” Phillips, whom she married in 1936 and who died in 1991; and two sisters, Edythe Dillon and Marjorie Gschwind.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Hayes Cemetery in Wayne Township. Arrangements were handled by Baumgardner Funeral Home, Andover.
