NEWTON FALLS — Evelyn Mae Neiss passed peacefully at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

On Feb. 15, 1920, in Windham, Henry E. and Mary E. Gorden Neiss welcomed the birth of their second child, Evelyn.

She began her education in the Windham school system. When the family relocated to Newton Falls in 1932, she continued her formal education in the Newton Falls school system, graduating from Newton Falls High School in 1938.

After graduation, Evelyn obtained employment with the Snyder Coal Co. in Newton Falls. As changes evolved with newer methods of heating and an increase in automobiles, the company became the Texaco Gas and Fuel Oil Co. in the early 1950s.

With the experience and knowledge that Evelyn acquired, she became the owner/operator of this business in the 1980s. The business was renamed the Neiss Home Oil Co. She was actively involved with the daily operations of the business and had continually served the community and surrounding area for 70 years. For the past 40 years, Evelyn and her sister, Betty Lou, enjoyed working together in the business.

Her enjoyable pastimes had included golfing and bowling in the local women’s leagues with her sisters and her friends.

Evelyn spent many hours on the care of her home and her surrounding property. She received great satisfaction when the work was completed and then would relax outside and observe the wildlife in her yard. As the rabbits, squirrels, birds, ducks and other wildlife became accustomed to the daily feeding, many would come to eat directly from Evelyn’s hand. When visiting her at her office, one would be greeted by any one of her pets that she had throughout her life.

Evelyn cared deeply for her family and friends. They in turn bestowed much love and kindness to her. She was fondly known to her nieces and nephews as ‘‘Aunt Evie.’’

Treasured memories of Evelyn will be carried on by her beloved sister, Betty Lou Young of Newton Falls; her adored nieces and nephews, Judith Rockenfelder, Joanne Stokes, Donald Young, Nancy Williams, Jim Neiss, Cheryl Gordon, Sharyn Kothera and Duane Lorenz; 24 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 16 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Preceding Evelyn were a brother, Robert Neiss, and three sisters, Catherine Lorenz, Madeline M. Neiss and Judith Ann Neiss.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where a service will be 10:30 a.m. today. Evelyn will be laid to rest at Newton Township Cemetery, Newton Falls.
