Robert Albert Holden 1924-2008

WARREN — Robert Albert Holden, 83, of Sunnybrook Drive, died Sunday evening, March 2, 2008, at the St. Joseph Health Care Center.

Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Albert Fredrick and Alice Viola Thompson Holden.

A graduate of Penn Hills High School, Robert attended The University of Pittsburgh, where he studied transportation and economics.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy. He came to the Warren area from Pennsylvania in 1965, and began a career as a self-employed home builder and also worked as a Realtor and appraiser.

Robert was a member of Elks Lodge 295, the Sons of Italy and the Warren Moose. He attended services at Christ Episcopal Church.

Robert was an avid golfer and enjoyed billiards and playing solitaire. He had a host of friends of whom he treasured and enjoyed spending his time with them.

He married Dorothy Jean Specht Nov. 25, 1949. She preceded him in death Oct. 6, 1998.

Robert will be dearly missed by six children, Cheryl J. ‘‘Cherrie’’ Mogul of Liberty, Robert A. (Pamela) Holden of Deltona, Fla., Howard C. (Cindy) Holden of Tulsa, Okla., William R. Holden of Warren, Lauren L. (Kelly) Abbott-Carter of Hickory, N.C., and Richard S. Holden of Warren; 12 grandchildren, Lisa Lazor, Samuel Mogul, Jameson Mogul, Kelly Hill, Keith Holden, Alicia Cramer, Richard Settlemire, Nathan Cramer, Shaun Holden, Bryant Holden, Ashley Abbott and Alex Abbott; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Elnora Wilson of Vermont; and a brother, Richard Holden of Pittsburgh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Winifred Holden; and three brothers, James, Chester and John Holden.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at the Howland Township Cemetery, where full military honors will be observed.
