June 6, 2013, the 69th anniversary of "D Day", the largest invasion ever attempted, where 200,000 Americans stormed the beaches at Normandy to begin the final push to defeat Nazi Germany in WWII. D-Day marked the turning point in WWII in Europe, where the Nazis were engaged in mass murder of Jews and minorities by the thousands. Today, European heads of state make it a point to recall and honor the sacrifices of those who landed in Normandy , as do our Presidents.... well, most of them.... In the 69 years since D-Day, there are four occasions when the President of the United States chose not to visit the D-Day Monument that honors the soldiers killed during the Invasion.

The occasions were: 1. Barack Obama, 2010 2. Barack Obama, 2011 3. Barack Obama, 2012 4. Barack Obama, 2013

"When you see that in order to produce, you need to seek permission from those who produce nothing. When you see money flow to those who deal not in goods, but in favors. When you see men get wealthier more by graft than by work. Finally, when you see your laws that protect you from them being changed so that they protect them from you, that's when you know that your society is doomed."

we are there.

@MandatoryMullets Obama a clown? Real intelligent comment to the conversation. This clown is in the white house and won in a landslide twice. You, on the other hand for what I have read from your posts are a drunk and a pot head Amish gang lover. Yeah, your posts sure carry a lot of weight.

Restoration of our full pensions requires ZERO taxpayer dollars. Our pension money is already in the PBGC, and that money came from the mandatory contributions made by Delphi over the years. The pension was never underfunded to the point that it should have been seized by the PBGC. That act was convenient for SCUMBAMA, however, to expedite trying to be the next savior.

126 comments. This is the most that the Trib has allowed in quite a while, lol.

We believe some things because we WANT to believe them. I hope the retirees get trillions, but they'll get nothing.

Your next president is going to be the Republican candidate. This is already determined - it was determined when NoBama was placed into office the second time. I actually stated this before, several months ago. Mark it next president will be the Republican candidate, and we don't even know who's "running" yet, lol.

You people have too much faith in this system of government, although some of you are slowly, but surely, learning otherwise.

Bicker on Drones.

Reallytiredandold that was my response when I found out you were part of 717 union head. I was talking about my union membership experience with a local CU union. My experience not GM. Your the one confused and tired buddy.

UAW dictated what they needed to the SCUMBAMA Admin. Is this what you citizens want for America? Demand justice for the Delphi retirees. Full pensions.

Aeneid - Vendetta? You can't be serious. After four years of coverup by none other than the OBAMA Administration, it is quite obvious who directed this...SCUMBAMA!

The COVERUP by the Obama Administration WILL be exposed.

This issue is difficult to follow because it was politicized almost immediately- and heavily so by the Tribune-Chronicle editorial board. The retirees deserve their pensions- absolutely so- but I don't know what fanning the flames and presenting this as a vendetta against the President is going to accomplish.

The only thing more absurd than union thug Arbogast's comments is that he thinks people actually believe his non-truths.

DR YES,YES,YES,YES,YES,YES,YES I did. I assume that you did the politically proper thing and voted for a person who made it a business to buy up companies and bankrupt them SO THEY COULD STRIP PEOPLES PENSIONS FROM THEM. IDIOT

UFT, I couldn't agree more with the concept of the workers benefits being the top priority when a company files for bankruptcy. The Salaried retirees do not agree with that concept though. When the retirees from other bankrupt companies asked the Delphi Salaried Retirees to join them in their struggle, the Delphi Salaried Retirees said NO, They would rather keep their battle seperate. Go figure huh!

all pensions are going to be wiped out shortly, butwhat has happened to these delphi retirees pensions is unforgivable.

instead of all of us demanding a corporation and a govt live up to their promises and contractsand pay these retirees what they are suppose to be paid, you all argue about it.

reality says this shou*** scare every one of you. your turn in this collapse is quickly on its way. every single american should have demanded a corporation and the federal govt ensured these contracts were upheld!

the corporations, the federal govt, and the bankers can get away with absolutely any crime they want because avg americans are now willing to take the side of a criminal govt and mega corporations even as those politicians and CEOs sc.rew your neighbor.

its very sad.

daniel...."OSU1975 Stop voting for Demacrats? LOOL! Don't know what planet your from but it was The Republican Appointed One that was in office and caused this whole mess was it not? Was Obama in office when the Country Collapsed?"

ok, here i go. yes, a so callled republican was in office when GM went belly up, but it was GM not being able to produce a good product that made GM go belly up. That's the fault of the white collar and the blue collar employees there.

no, obammy was not in the oval office when our economy began collapsing. however, obammmy and his policies has ensured that the catastophe that was started whe bush was in office will end in such an horrific way that the USA will be permanently changed forever. he's the biggest sellout in the history of the universe.

oh man reallytiredofit....I can't stand union head rats. They're are all sold out from my personal experience within a union. They like to get in the proverbial bed with management and make backroom, personal deals and will sell out the union workers in a heartbeat. My experience tells me this about the union heads.
