Work needs to be done on parks

July 21, 2013

Both parks in Warren are deplorable & really should be closed. Packard Park is an open air drug market/"pickup" point. Perverts and druggies galore. Perkins Park is filthy. In addition to the overgrown walking paths there is garbage, beer bottles, cigarette butts, dog waste, etc., just like the rest of Warren. The city workers make no effort to pick up the trash. They just mow right over paper and leave it on the ground. There are always teams of workers at both parks. I'm just not sure what they do because the place always looks the same. Go to Mill Creek in Youngstown where they have police patrolling the park to keep the pervs and druggies out and workers who take pride in keeping the park clean and beautiful.

Eyesonyou first of all you have no idea who I am, I don't work for the city. But I do know how the Divistie and Cantalamessa crew operate. Old man Joe has had all the local politicians eating for free at his banquet hall for years every Tuesday afternoon, just parking in the back of hall. He has gotten all of his family members including in laws in the city and county. Which is fine, but now hs nephew Enzo is placing these inept family members into jobs which they have no idea what they are doing. Basically they are too stupid to work at the restaurant or banquet hall, but smart enough to manage in the city.

Thats an awful lot of inside information CHELLO, let me ask you, How did you get your City Job? How did you get your promotion into management?

I like how you try to hide behind purposely misspelled words. I think I know who you are by the way you type out your comments, you type like you talk.

Ron, get up off your butt and fix the problem if it bothers you. I bet your one of the same that complain about your taxes. I think our county inmates could be doing this, but then we would need more police to watch the little darlings while they were outside doing a public service. I guess even free labor cost money.

What keeps the complainers from going down there with a pair of gloves and a kneeling pad to pull some weeds? One quick spray with weed killer would take almost no time at all..****plaining does not fix a thing. Be the change you want to see.

@chello, yep, nepotism is alive and well in Warren. Nothing gets done because no one wants to tell their family members that they actually have to work to get paid.

@Commonsense, well, I'm sure it's still the fault of those racist Republicans. We'll let WP tell us how they are responsible for the fact that city employees in a Democratic stronghold can't be botereh to do their jobs.

Courthouse square along with monument park was always taken well care of by a operations worker that retired this past winter. It is know taken care of not so well by Safety Service Director Cantalamessa's uncle that was transferred there after he couldn't cut the mustard at the sanitation department. Also Cantalamessa promoted his other uncle to Supervisor in the operations department to a job that had set empty for over two years. Business as usual while Enzo is sitting in the weeds looking to run for Law Director once the also inept Greg Hicks announces his retirement. He has also promised to promote his cousin from bill collector in the Water department into management once a job opens up, business as usual in Worn out Ohio.

No one wants to pay for stuff like this anymore. You have to remember that there is a war on public sector workers. Who do you think would do the work? And its darn sure its not going to get done for less than a living wage. If that's the case then let it go to weeds.

I had never been down to the Amp. and decided to jog from the courthouse down past the Amp to the Perkins Park today. There are weeds growing out of many of the new cement steps! If something isn't done, the cement will crack and fall a part. The river walk is over grown and many of the landscape features look unkempt. What a nice facility! Please take care of it.

The streets do need fixed, but that is the Street Department's job. What are the park department workers doing with their time? They are paid to maintain the parks. Apples and oranges, WarrenProud. All city employees and officials need to simply do the jobs they are well paid to do. Warren would be a better place for it. But I realize that is asking too much...

City council is too involved in their attempt to change the law governing their wages. They want raises and free medical, therefore, they're much too busy to attend to city business that might benefit residents.

Let non violent offenders do some of the work and give them credit towards their sentences for good work. Better than paying for them to sit in jail

Warren proud you were just complaining about Union contracts the other day. They want to do a bond issue to fix the streets you can't have it both ways. Yes the parks need attention. I think they should have a summer work program for the kids who attend harding to clean up the parks.
