Sawyer only has another year or so til he either passes away or gets voted off the board or retires. He is in his 80s, he's served on the board ON an OFF for over 30+ yrs I think, as long as I can remember but its always the same old guys that run!

We do need younger people running the fair and not 80 year old millionaires. Also, Henry viii, the Captain and Tennile were there in 1977.

"Such groups as Lonestar, Blackhawk and Emerson Drive would take the stage."

Woo-hoo. Big time.

(Not exactly household names, eh guys?)

In my opinion, one of the main reasons the fair is such a has-been is the same dozen 80 year old men that run the show. These guys cruise around the fair in the golf carts, slapping each other on the back, raking in the cash - but the grounds are never improved, and the entertainment never improves. They couldn't even sell all the vendors' spots this year. When vendors won't bother to come to your fair to make money, something is wrong.

I remember the Monkees, Kentucky Headhunters but that was a lifetime ago. Nothing good for decades!

The fair was started so farmers could show off their livestock and cooking and canning skills and 4-H for 100 yrs now has been a big part. Entertainment for many years was the square dancing an clogging and old blue grass and country music in little stages...The big grandstand thing is a modern thing of the last 40+ or so years.

Why complain? You had mud to entertain you. The fairgrounds are a dump and everyone knows it. No country act would appear there.

You are so true. Years ago the fair did have some great entertainment, top notch country and rock acts back the day I still have autograph pictures, not sure of who I'll have to look sometime. LOL Ashtabula County fair has some really great entertainment acts before they become stars and the Crawford county fair gets star entertainment but they are much bigger and richer fairs. $$$$$ If we could get a few years of a whole week of nice weather with no rain during fair week, but the Trumbull County Fair seems to be cursed with rain. : (
