Does your mother know that you are overjoyed at the prospect of gay "marriage" in United States of America?

I'm not ashamed to face my mom and tell her that I still support marriage as being a union between a man and a woman just like she taught me.

I have no opposition to same-sex unions, but the term marriage means something special as I was taught as a boy. And the term "marriage" has already been taken with its own specific definitions.

I am not trying to convert anybody else to my beliefs, but don't you dare belittle me for adhering to the beliefs I was taught as a child.

Some fundamental definitions just do not change.

So reallytwotiredandoldtounderstand, how can Congress now pass a federal statute defining marriage used in federal law?

ItIsntEasyBeingFree, might want to read into the context on why DOMA was passed to begin with before you go on a multi comment rant.

I know why it was passed fool! Put this into context!

Isn't discriminatory to deny an adult and minor to marry now? Why wouldn't it be diceiminatory to engage in multiple simultaneous marriages! If its discrimanatory to define man and woman isn't it discrimanatory to define it at all?

"Under DOMA, same-sex married couples have their lives burdened, by reason of government decree, in visible and public ways," Kennedy said.

Don't the people on government assistance have their lives burdened by government decree, in visible and public ways!

The government shouldn't be so involved in the marriage issue. People should be able to marry any consenting adult they choose.

Old people against equal rights will keep dying off.

The federal government should stay out of the marriage business.

And that includes extending federal monetary benefits to married couples be they gay or straight.

Not saying DOMA was good, glad it's dead in the ground, but for god sakes it grinds my gears when people start spouting history completely void of context.

Who cares! There are bigger problems to be solved, like jobs and the crushing debt we are leaving our children.

Finally, this ridiculous, unneeded law has been declared unconstitutional. Marriage is a state controlled issue, not a federal issue.

We will find that out too when SCOTUS rules on California ban!

With the unconstitutional declaration of DOMA, just think the doors are opening to redefine marriage all together! People may soon be allowed to marry multiple people of a variety of sexes! Wow! Don't you love the fundamental transformation!

Well this is another one that the neocons called wrong. Once again they guarenteed that the DOMA would be upheld.

DOMA passed the House with 342 votes and 85 in the Senate both super majorities! Signed into law by biggest homosexual biggot Bill Clinton!
