COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association often gets a bad rap because many times it is the policeman of Ohio high school sports....

Why not have a "Trophy" for everyone who competes? This way, no one cries "unfair" when they aren't good enough to win... (LOL)

Yesterday you are saying Harding has open enrollment duh but at least they don't pose as a division 4 school moony is in a lesser division and last was the first time in years they were able to beat them. You are saying it is fair that the small country should have to go up against a Catholic school Bristol does not even have open enrollment
I can send my kid to a private school for FULL TUITION with a SAT score of 2000+ BUT a kid who can shoot, dunk, throw a football and spell catt and cannot count to 1 2 4 3 5 12 goes for free????? Let's be EQUAL! you all want equality!

And falls beat JFK about 6 years in a row quite easily. McDonald has a starting transfer from Boardman. Girard has a starting transfer from Ursuline. Everyone recruits and looks for greener pastures wherever that may be. If publics don't want to lose kids to privates, put them in a better situation academically, socially, spiritually, athletically. There are all kinds of great public schools, large and small, in Ohio with deep and longstanding athletic tradition.

Labrae beat Ursuline twice this year. And so because a catholic school beat Labrae in the state semis that means there's a competitive advantage? JFK and falls played every year for about 20years straight until this year. They played as recently last year. Chaney isn't even in existence anymore and that has nothing to do with sports. Youngstown East is slowly becoming quite strong in basketball. Get your facts straight.
Yesterday Labrea lost against a Catholic school duhh and newton falls has not played jfk in a long time. Look how poor Chaney is because mooney and Ursuline can openly recruit its players. Newton falls has open enrollment and zero players go there labrea gets the players that won't see playing time at Harding.
Newton Falls has been going up against D4 JFK for years and they seem to be doing just fine. In fact they dominate the series as of late and yet JFK "recruits". Get over it. Labrae seemed to do just fine vs. Ursuline. Same for Berkshire the last few years at the D3 Howland district. JFK is in the WGH D4 district and yet they are never the favorite but they recruit??? Convenient arguement for public schools when things don't go their way. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Life isn't fair. Lesson learned. Get over it already. Maybe we should start handing out trophies for every kid on the team. In fact lets just quit keeping score altogether so nobody wins or loses. Orange slices and capri suns for everyone!

Yesterday so you are saying it is fair for newton falls to go up against a division 4 Catholic school who can recruit their players. No talented kid will ever want to go to a small school with no exposure. Harding is also a division 1 school not a division 4.
WAAAAAA WAAAAA WAAAAAA. Harding recruits more than any school in the area. Get over it people. It's high school sports not world diplomacy.
Sammy, please, open enrollment does nothing to solve the problem. If you're a 15 year old hot shot player, in either basketball or baseball. You have option A, your small or another small city school who has never won anything and plays in front of 100-200 fans or Option B a catholic/private school (who amazingly is in the same division) that has won state title many many times, who plays in front of hundreds maybe a 1,000 fans and has college scouts at the games all the time. Tough pick!
sammyd i graduated form warren in 02 give me a brake and stop crying Cleveland public schools are not any good because of the catholic schools like lakewood st eds and st st ignatius and yes schools have open enrollment but who would go to a small public school to get noticed by a college scout. It is not fair that a small school like Newton Falls should have to go up against a division 4 team like Cleveland Central catholic. Heck in cardinal Mooney's good years they beat Harding a division 1 school at least Harding is in the correct division unlike Ursuline and my favorite Akron st vincent st mary's
BigGuy; City schools can only play with what they have? You obviously are not aware of open enrollment. Hell, Steve Arnold fielded a basketball team that included players from multiple countries. Thom McDaniels had players from all over the Mahoning County. No one from Warren cried foul when that happened. Wake up!!
This does very very little to solve the problem. Private/Catholic schools should have separate tournaments period. Its not fair they are allowed to go all over the state and get their players while city schools can only play with who they have. Private/Catholic schools only make up 18% of the schools in Ohio, yet they've won over 50% of the state championships in the past 10+ years. I was a member of a group who went to the state boys basketball championships in Columbus every year & we always joked that all the Catholic/Private schools would have 10 African-American players, but all white cheerleaders and a 1,000 white fans.
