EducateNF - how is it you are at the top of the mountain postulating down to the rest of us that merging is a bad idea. With todays computers a trasurer could do two disticts at one desk.

I personally believe seniors could have video classes just like college. With a class master plan, one teacher could do three districts. Every school gets the same lesson every day.

I've shown up to some township and trustee meetings every now and then in the Mahoning Valley area and one thing was always pretty consistent: the officials at the meetings never understand why the Tribune publishes editorials like this.

Neither do I. These pieces are as short-sighted as they are charged.

As the Trib sees it, apparently a magical means of consolidation and austerity measures can enable school systems to fight their way of funding issues. Is that how it works, Mr. Coviello?

The money allocated to school districts has been slashed since Kasich took over and the editors of this newspaper know that. But instead they choose to engage in another anti-public funding for anything rant. It's just so simple-minded.

If the teachers union and teachers decided to screw themselves and backed GOP candidates the unions and teachers would be treated by the GOP as Gods. The unions could then do no wrong (just like corporations). The unions would then have the GOP fighting against private schools, charter schools and vouchers. The editor is just one more of those GOP clowns. Buy the Vindy.

The Trib and the Vindy aren't constantly badgering the property owners of the Valley for more money to pay for protecting separate fiefdoms and covering inefficiencies.

The many various school districts, on the other hand.....................

I am not so sure that consolidating positions between districts is the best idea. I wonder, if the Tribune Chronicle would consider consolidating editors with the Youngstown Vindicator in order to save costs. The jobs are the same and the areas close enough that they should be able to handle the work of both papers. That is what you are asking schools to do by combining Treasurers and Superintendents. If they are doing their jobs properly, it would be difficult at best to serve two districts. I do agree and know that most school districts are involved in ordering supplies and purchasing things such as healthcare through the consortium to maximize their dollars saved. The governor's new budget take away from districts that are performing well while giving those dollars to non-performing districts.

None of the districts are as careful with tax payer's dollars as they are with their own.

Get it through your thick skulls.

NO MORE TAX LEVIES!

Time to consolidate districts, services, and positions and eliminate the non-instructional sacred cow positions.

Run an excellent system and you might fill your buildings with kids from neighboring districts who will bring tax dollar money with them.

Brookfield's attempt to pass an income tax was soundly defeated partial because they wanted to use the Traditional Tax Base (wages, pensions, interest, dividends, IRA distributions etc.) vs the Earned Income Tax Base that excluded these items. Trust was lost as the board seemed to flounder with this decision. Trib is correct it is time they explore a merger with Vienna who does not have a new school/has EPA problems and broaden the pupil base. We do not have confidence that 4.85 mills will be the end of the request.
