Public gives low marks to Congress

February 18, 2013

DEAR EDITOR: Increasingly, national polls indicate the general public gives the U.S. Congress (both the Senate and the House) low marks relative to credibility....

Low marks are certainly deserved, but keep in mind that people in each state generally don't think much of congressmen/congresswomen in the other 49 states.

Virtually all congressmen/congresswomen are better thought of in the states they actually serve.

So this number is almost meaningless . . . it is destined to be a low number even in the best of times.

Otherwise, someone tell me how the incumbents(who are generally very much disliked in the "other" 49 states), get back in?

This number has value, cause it can go down in bad times and it will "probably", rise in good times, but the "raw", number means almost nothing.

This will never change until term limits and the outlawing of lobbying is a reality. Some of these dinosaurs in congress and the senate have been bought and paid for over the years. They those lobbying are for nothing more then their own special interest no matter what side of the isl they support.

I agree with the low ratings. These people don't deserve a vacation during this economic crisis, let alone a pay raise!

Meh, anyone have a better idea on how to get a few hundred people from all walks of life and location to agree on single issues?

To pieces with the First Amendment Billdog--outlaw lobbying??? Maybe in Communist China! Term limits are NOT the answer. Witness Ohio and the musical chair charade that takes place. Term limits create a power vacuum in the power structure giving special interest groups even MORE power--this is NOT the answer.

Timmy may by a POS, but he is OUR POS.

And we keep sending him back to DC in hopes he will be able to bring back more tax dollars than we sent in.

Times 435 nationwide.

Term limits would help, but would not cure a cancer that has been aggressively growing for a couple of centuries.

But the president does?

I would agree that a low rating is most likely warranted. However, it is probably for a different reason. They are not as good as campaigning or more like, being seen as someone that is fighting for the American people. They are actually about the only thing keeping us from total destruction. This admin is trying to transform this country and not in a good way.

Yes. Put them all in a room with nothing to eat but green beans and some warm, melted cheese. They can't come out until they all agree.

Here we have a President that hasn't had a Budget in 4 years and a Democrat controlled Senate that helped him break the law.
