seems to me the old republic plant was a shovel ready job years ago and obama and your representatives ignored it and bailed out the money men . ryan should have had his feet held to the fire when the bailouts began. the green job loan guarantees all went bust. smoke stacks of many industries built this country and created tax paying jobs. now those tax paying jobs are on the dole, for awhile. at least the air will be cleaner at the unemployment and welfare lines .

Not really, and for two reasons;

1. The U.S. has always been involved in every wide-scale war.

2. The U.S. is the one that starts them in the first place.

The plan was always to buy it and liquidate it. That's why the new owner has no experience in the steel business. He doesn't need any.

You'd be correct to assume that this great country would be in deep trouble should another wide-scale war erupt and we were involved. This factory made steel out of raw materials.Look at the old documentaries showing how citizens came together for the war effort donating metals and making steel to build our bombs, tanks, carriers, etc. We loose the capability when we shutter our mills like RG for good.Threats to our liberties and sovereignty still exist. It is foolish to think otherwise. One of the threats just MAY be the aforementioned greed of owners like these.Owners or corporate raiders?

you get what you vote for. People voted for hand outs. so why save jobs when people voted for money from the government to live on. Go back to your Union that wanted you to vote Democratic and ask for money.

Wow... Four months ago it was "we should all stand up and applaud" this new owner... And one person did indeed stand up and applaud him in a meeting, and now it has come to this...

Sad.

The typical actions of Novak and the rest of Warren's elected officials. They propose to do something now when it is too late instead of 4 months ago when the mill was first bought.

You guys are too hard on our elected reps. I was told just yesterday that Letson was going to have a Happy Hour Drink-A-Thon and afterwards Timberly Ryan was hosting a Marco-Polo game with the cops...

"For now, though, the steel market remains soft, and with the struggling economy, operators are not easy to come by, those involved in the process have said."

More evidence of the Obama recovery? Those who voted for him are getting what they deserve.

Al Novak is well intended and may be the only elected official locally who is not full of BS but bringing the ownership of RG together with a room full of politicians is disaster. Business is business, it's Mr. Better's mill to do what he wants with it. He owes nothing to the City of Warren, the union or anyone else but his investors.

The Components being sold at auction are critical to the Steel Making Process. Mr. Betters can maintain any stance he chooses, but anyone who worked there knows that selling off haulers and big machinery that is critical to the transportation of slabs, coils or molten material are critical pieces to the Steel Making process.

Novak is a joke along with the rest of city council. They are clueless. Worn is going to miss out on thr shale thing, if there is one. The city is a mess. Crime is out of control...etc etc. there is no future. The politicals should have headed this off.

This is the result of globalization. Foreign entities should never have been allowed to purchase property or business in our country.

Your global masters own you now. They own your everything including your debt.

Our end is in sight, I hear the horseman approaching from the East. An ominous creature of unseen enormity prepares to feast upon its ignorant host.

Did anyone ask Senator Portman who was in the valley for help? I'm sure he stayed clear. My deepest sympathies to the RG Steel workers and their families over their job losses.
