January 11, 2013

WARREN — As a response to the New Year’s day murder of Cory Blackwell and the closing of the Sunset Lounge several days later, the city’s administration, law and police departments are forming a......

Problem is these owners need to step up to the plate and be selective about some of the patrons. ID people to keep minors out, if a group of people come in looking shady, make them leave. There is a local bar the owners took over and they eliminated parking for bikers. They had nothing but trouble with them over the years(not saying all bikers are bad, some ruin it for others). I saw them throw riff/raff out to protect their patrons. Step up to the plate owners so you can get rid of the dangerous thugs and we won't waste the police's time! How about after so many police calls for guns/ get SHUT DOWN!

Very good point GrandmaChele, 3 members of a local motorcycle club shot, there was video of the chaos, and nobody has been charged in incident? So, a Task force is formed for bars?

Task force for cities bars? I remember there being alot more bars in Warren 20years ago, the police force was bigger as was the population of the city AND there was no TASK FORCE, NOR the problems city has today. There are many obvious reasons, the main being turf war between Detroit and Warren Native thugs. Any establishment that welcomes or attracts thugs is sure to have similar outcomes as The Sunset.

Truth is right. I'm surprised there wasn't a study commissioned first. And then a study to study the study...

Remember, the director of WRAP took credit for WRAP helping the Sunset Lounge open! He also took credit for WRAP helping businesses open whose owners told me WRAP had nothing to do with... But I do so love the narrative where WRAP helped a convicted felon open up a bar in downtown!

"GlendaG, it appears that Franklin has a moral mission he is on."

This should be good...

"Close the Message Parlors and now close the drinking establishments."

You mean the massage parlors that the state investigated. The massage parlors that needed community and church groups to cry about for years before the city did anything? Some crusade...

Would love to hear more about the leap it takes to link problem bars with all "drinking establishments". And no, the use of the term "slippery slope" is not allowed because it is a childish thing to say. Let's deal with solid 'A to B to C' thinking.

How does wanting to close down trouble magnets lead to all bars being closed here in 21st century America?

Maybe this task force can work with WRAP and spend more city money to get nothing to show for it.

GlendaG, it appears that Franklin has a moral mission he is on. Close the Message Parlors and now close the drinking establishments. Next, make the sell of cigarettes in the city limits illegal.

Like the many Probes of the past this task force will just another waist of time and money. Arrest the criminals when they commit a crime. When they go to court we all gather at the courthouse and let the prosecutor and judge know we demand justice. I guess as law abiding citizens we could always start voting out those that don't do things the way we as citizens think they should be done.

Do we really have so many bad places that we need a task force to watch over them what a joke. How about lets enforce the law before someone dies. It is not like it was the first time we had issues at that place and what are we going to do have someone at the door at the citys expense I really don't get it. I don't think that there are so many bad places that we need a task force for the open estblishments when we need a task force for drugs and prostitutions on our streets. We have more people being shot on the streets than in liquor estblishments. I just think we need to start inforcing the law. We need the judges police force and the service director to work hand and hand with the mayor and do their jobs and we would not have these problems. If the place is causing problems shut them down. We have had many establishments in this area for years and years with no problem because they follow the rules if these businesses can not follow the rules shut them down period

So let's spend MORE money on a task force!!!What about the police department we already have and pay for! How about just running Lashawn Ziegler out of town, didn't he recently violate his probation - is he back in jail? He seems to be at the root of all the problems mentioned in this article. So we pay more money for a couple fat cats to sit around a table once a month, collect tax payer money and how/when will the people of Warren see any results from this task force? Stupid Idea Warren!

"We are concerned about the safety of our residents," Then do something about the drug issues that the residents face. Two dead thugs from the trade doesn't constitute the need for a "task force" to subdue these actions. "Stop the flow so the city can grow" should be first priority. Eliminate the source and your problems will too decline.

"A task force" why don't the police and the safety director DO their job that they're being paid to do?
