Liberty, Girard spar over school site

August 3, 2008

By RAYMOND L. SMITH Tribune Chronicle GIRARD — Councilman Frank Migliozzi, D-1st Ward, told his colleagues that if Liberty failed to pass legislation that allows the city’s new high school site to be annexed into the city, the township — and not Girard — would be responsible for providing safety services to the new building. The land on which the new Girard High School is to be built is located in the township. The city school board has been working to convince Liberty Township trustees to pass legislation allowing Girard to annex the property. City Council delayed a vote on supporting the annexation agreement because Liberty trustees failed to pass a annexation resolution. Trustee W. Gary Litch delayed a vote on the proposal last week, because Litch said he wanted to go to the school board to determine how the traffic at the new high school would impact Liberty residents living in the area.
