During my sophomore year in high school I took a journalism class that taught me many of the fundamentals I use in my writing today. I had an excellent teacher, Mr. D as we referred to him, who taught me a lot. Most importantly, he told me to never put my name on a story I wouldn’t want people to read or that I wouldn’t be willing to own up to. That one piece of advice has always stuck with me. In Saturday’s paper I wrote a column calling out Warren’s professional and collegiate football players for not attending the Mims-Manoa football camp. While I still fundamentally agree with the principles of the column, I specifically called out three athletes without first contacting them to get their side of the story. I apologize to former Raiders Prescott Burgess, Mario Maningham and Dan Herron. After speaking with several people close to the situation, the three were out of town either at OTAs (Organized Team Activities) or other commitments.
