Scrappers hope to welcome Jim
Jim Traficant isn’t the only person counting the days until he’s released from prison. The former former congressman has plenty of followers from the area awaiting his discharge, including the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The Scrappers are known for their quirky promotions, which have attracted large crowds during their 11-year existence. They’ll add one of their quirkiest this season when the Mahoning Valley minor-league baseball team adds Jim Traficant Night to its promotional schedule. It’s nothing new. The Scrappers held a similar promotion last year, but this time they plan on involving Traficant himself. Mahoning Valley general manager Dave Smith said the public relations department has scheduled the night toward the end of the year, which is around the time of Traficant’s release. The goal is to have Traficant in attendance for the game. It’s an interesting and controversial decision by the Scrappers to hold such a promotion, but I like the idea. Former U.S. Rep.
