Warren Community College — a perspective
On Oct. 29, a public meeting was held in the Warren City Council Chambers to discuss the prospect of a community college, to be located in Warren. The first point to be made here is that improving the educational opportunities for our area and especially for those who experience barriers to the currently available post-secondary educational institutions is a great thing and those leading the effort deserve the highest of praise. The concept paper handed out at the meeting said in Section IV, Implementation Steps, in the fourth step of that section that there should be a “public engagement of leaders and citizens to ensure broad based support.’’ While I didn’t count the number of citizens present, I believe that there were about 20 people in attendance. The session was opened by Warren Councilwoman at Large, Helen Rucker, who deserves kudos for her efforts in the endeavor. Jim Graham, UAW Local 1112 President, led with remarks of support.
