AARP sponsors career fairs for those 50 and older

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — AARP says about 1,200 people in southwest Ohio attended the first of 48 scheduled career fairs scheduled to help job seekers aged 50 and older.

AARP spokeswoman Kathy Keller said Tuesday's free event in Dayton was the first set for 19 high-unemployment states and the first of eight planned for Ohio.

Ohio's unemployment rate was 10.8 percent in January.

AARP officials say fair workshops will offer tips and techniques to help those trying to stay employed or get back on the job.

Keller says job seekers can get various services, including advice on using the Internet and individual time with career counselors.
