He ran alongside each athlete through the drills as each elementary and junior highaged camper maneuvered his way through a piece of the field-turf practice football field behind Cardinal Mooney High School. He encouraged every one with the same fervor, treating each one as though they were special in his eyes. He didn’t seem like a typical high school player, but acted more like the plethora of college coaches at this year’s Cardinal Mooney Camp of Champions. It wasn’t that many years ago the Mooney senior tailback was among the campers. “I kind of get into it and make it fun for them,” Griffin said. “When I was younger, I remember the guys who made it fun for me.” Most of these Cardinal football players were campers themselves. They remember the coaches like Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops and Nebraska’s Bo Pelini, who are Cardinal Mooney graduates, giving their time at the camp.
