Regardless of the message, people still need to express themselves
DEAR EDITOR: In the early 1980s, I had the honor and privilege of attending an English class taught by Dr. Mary T. Brizzi. She was an outstanding professor and published author at KSU-Trumbull. She didn’t cram ideas down our throats, but instead allowed each individual to find his or her own voice and method of getting to a place of true expressionism. During one of our classes, Dr. Brizzi conducted an experiment. The 30 students in the class were to remain silent and were only allowed to communicate non-verbally. She brought a cake into the room and placed it on her desk and then left the room. At first, everyone was at a loss as to what to do, then gradually games started being played and notes, but as the minutes went by, the class became increasingly aggressive to the point of throwing things and destroying items. Dr. Brizzi returned to find total chaos, almost mob-like reactions and soon she became a victim with cake being thrown about the room and in her hai.
