Remembrance of contributions made is a step toward progress
DEAR EDITOR: I would just like to submit an educated opinion in reference to Mr. Blessing’s letter to the editor on March 7. As a black American, I can empathize with him and the generation of tribes throughout America that still have not been able to acquire their rightful claims in this country. Our tragedies are similar with the injustices that have been done to us, some in the name of religion. It is not enough that we as black Americans were only given 28 days, in a leap year 29, to enlighten this country of our contributions which have yet to fill a library. It’s ridiculous. The Native American should be recognized as the original citizens of this country who too contributed much to this country. But we don’t live in a fair and just society that can look beyond color, even with our president. That is why we must make certain that our children and generations know of our contributions and build on that foundation as well as the other ethnic groups who came her.
