Is `Sister Christian’ coming to Covelli Centre? And who will be her date?
August 4, 2009 - Andy Gray
This won’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s tried to buy tickets lately, but the Journey/Heart double bill on Aug. 20 at Covelli Centre officially is sold out. No more seats are available, although there’s always a chance a few tickets may get released at the box office a day of the show.
Considering how successful that classic rock pairing proved to be, could the Covelli Centre be planning another one? According to both Pollstar magazine and the band’s Web site, Night Ranger will play the Youngstown arena on Nov. 7.
Night Ranger has several radio hits in the ‘80s – in addition to “Sister Christian,” there’s “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me,’’ “When You Close Your Eyes” and “(You Can Still) Rock in America’’ – but they aren’t an arena headliner anymore. If Night Ranger is playing the Covelli Centre and it’s not part of another event like a rib burn-off, then they are going to be the opening act.
Who could be the headliner? Well, Night Ranger is playing some shows the week before with Styx and REO Speedwagon, and that double bill is scheduled to be in Columbus on Nov. 8. Neither band has Youngstown on their tour schedules yet, but they aren’t scheduled to play somewhere else either.
