And the `Major Concert Announcement’ is …
January 12, 2009 - Andy Gray
Billy Joel and Elton John will bring their successful “Face 2 Face” tour to Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena at 7:30 p.m. May 23.
The piano men have toured together off and on since 1994 for shows that feature a separate set by each artist and his band and a combined encore that has John and Joel singing along with each other’s hits and performing rock ‘n’ roll classics.
The duo was supposed to play Cleveland on the first “Face 2 Face” tour in 1994, announcing a show at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. However, that concert was a rare instance where fans stood up to high ticket prices. The show was canceled after audiences balked at paying the then outrageous price of $85 and $46 for a stadium show.
That would be a bargain for the arena show. Tickets at Quicken Loans Arena are $180, $100 and $51.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at all Ticketmaster outlets and by calling 330-747-1212.
However, a recent story on ticket prices and the economy said Joel and John were charging the same prices they got the last time they toured together in 2003.
