Browns add safety
July 31, 2014 - Mike McLain
CLEVELAND -- The Browns have signed safety Jim Leonhard.
Leonhard (5-8, 188) is entering his 10th season. He was originally signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted rookie in 2006. He's started 68 of 126 career games and has registered 377 tackles, with 32 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Leonhard also spent time with Buffalo (2005-07, 2013), Baltimore (2008), the New York Jets (2009-11) and Denver (2012). Last season, he appeared in all 16 games with seven starts and registered 37 tackles and a career-high four interceptions.
There could be room for Leonhard when final cuts are made. Tashaun Gipson and Donte Whitner are set as starters at the safety spots. Jordan Poyer finished last season on the roster and has a decent chance of staying. Johnson Bademosi appeared in 32 combined games the last two seasons and is a valuable special teams contributor.
