Browns looking at QBs
April 28, 2014 - Mike McLain
BEREA -- Browns general manager Ray Farmer confirmed that former Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young is in town and could be added to the roster in time for a three-day mini camp that begins Tuesday.
Tyler Thigpen is another quarterback the Browns could add as depth.
Brian Hoyer and Alex Tanney are the only quarterbacks on the roster. Hoyer won't be able to participate in the mini camp because he's still recovering from knee surgery last October.
Young was selected third in the 2006 draft after a stellar career at the University of Texas. He's also played with the Eagles, Bills and Packers.
Young had early success with the Titans but eventually struggled when not able to meet the NFL demands in the passing game. He's also had some off-the-field problems.
Thigpen was a seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2007. He didn't play last season after spending time with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.
Both players bring mobility to the position, a quality that's important to offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan .
"It's a piece of the puzzle. I wouldn't say it's the top piece," Browns general manager Ray Farmer said. "They're both very good athletes. They've had relative success. Kyle would tell you he likes a quarterback that's mobile. This offense is going to require the quarterback to do different things -- throw on the move and play outside the pocket to some degree."
