Bess' season is done
December 21, 2013 - Mike McLain
Browns receiver Davone Bess was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list Saturday, which means he won't be available the last two games of the season.
A statement by the team simply stated that Bess was placed on the list for personal reasons.
Bess was acquired from the Miami Dolphins in a trade during the draft this year. The feeling was that Bess would provide an option in the short passing game that would complement the down-the-field skills of Josh Gordon and Greg Little.
Bess hasn't provided the spark that was envisioned. He ends the season with 42 receptions for 362 yards and two touchdowns.
The Browns might be re-thinking the three-year contract that Bess signed last April shortly after the trade.
Look for seldom-used receiver Josh Cooper to get playing time today in place of Bess. Cooper has appeared in just three games. He spent five weeks on the practice squad after being waived and then re-signed in early October.
