Songs of Christmas: '12 Days of Christmas'
December 19, 2013 - Andy Gray
One of the best known but least-recorded Christmas songs may be “12 Days of Christmas.”
It was kind of fun to sing when you were 8 years old and your teacher had different people sing the different days. But let’s face it, the participation is what made it fun. No one wants to just listen to the “12 Days of Christmas.”
Here are a couple versions that are worth a listen. The first is a raved-up arrangement with some additional lyrics by Canton’s Relient K, which released the Christmas album “Let It Snow Baby … Let It Reindeer” a few years ago (I know I dissed Christmas albums in yesterday’s post but this is one the adults and the kids in our house enjoy).
The second will be familiar to comedy fans who grew up in the ‘70s and ‘80s. “Saturday Night Live” got more attention, but “SCTV” was just as big with comedy nerds back then. Bob and Doug McKenzie might not be the best example of that show’s adventurous comedy, but you gotta love these hosers.
