Songs of Christmas: '2000 Miles'

December 18, 2013 - Andy Gray
I’ve decided I’m not a big fan of Christmas albums.

There are exceptions, but most artists don’t have a dozen quality Christmas songs in them, certainly not that many original ones. And the standards have been recorded so many times with essentially the same arrangements that most of us really don’t need another version of, say, “White Christmas.”

Instead, I like it when performers throw a Christmas-y song on a regular album or just release it as a single.

Today’s “Song of Christmas” is the closing track on what is, arguably, The Pretenders’ best album, “Learning to Crawl.”

“2000 Miles” is a beautiful, wistful song that sounds as good in July as it does in December. Click the link to enjoy this live version from the DVD “The Pretenders – The Isle of View.”
