Songs of Christmas: A Red Wanting Blue twofer

December 7, 2013 - Andy Gray
I’m doing a Red Wanting Blue twofer for “The Songs of Christmas,” mainly because I didn’t know this song existed until I was double checking to make sure the link worked with yesterday’s post.

RWB contributed a version of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” for “A Not So Silent Night,” a Christmas compilation featuring Columbus-area bands to benefit Music Loves Ohio. The non-profit organization provides opportunities for children in central Ohio to learn, perform and record music.

Other acts on the set include The Floorwalkers, Jared Mahone, The Regrettes, The Wet Darlings, Forest & the Evergreens, EOP, Post Coma Network, Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons and the Winnie Cooper Project. It’s available for download on Amazon and iTunes.

RWB’s arrangement borrows heavily from the Bruce Springsteen version, although lead singer Scott Terry puts his own spin on the song vocally. And this track is even more “local.” The man doing his best Clarence Clemons’ impression on the sax solo is none other than Liberty native Jerry DePizzo, better known for his work with O.A.R.
