Beer fest rivalry brewing in Mahoning Valley

May 9, 2013 - Andy Gray
Apparently the organizers of The Big Tap In don’t want anyone tapping into their territory.

Last week promoter Dominic Gatta III announced plans for the Youngstown Beer Fest, a fall beer fest at the Covelli Centre on Oct. 5.

Today the organizers of the Big Tap In, a spring beer fest that celebrated its fourth annual event last month, sent out a press release that they are planning a fall event of their own, OctoBREWfest, at the Shepherd Events Center in Boardman on Sept. 21 – two weeks before the Youngstown Beer Fest.

It’s interesting to note that the Big Tap In was held at the Covelli Centre in 2012 before deciding to return to the Boardman location this year.

OctoBREWfest also is getting the jump on its new competitor. Tickets for the Youngstown Beer Fest will go on sale May 17. OctoBREWfest tickets will be available starting May 14.
