Rough start for YSU
October 6, 2012 - Dana Sulonen
Things didn’t start off that great for Youngstown State University at the Fargodome on Saturday afternoon.
The Penguins chose to receive the ball (which they always do), but on the first play of the game, Jamaine Cook fumbled the ball, which NDSU recovered. Just a few plays later, running back John Crockett punched in a 1-yard touchdown.
But YSU responded in a very positive way on their ensuing drive. With a good mix of runs and throws, the Penguins marched down the field, and finished it off with a 1-yard pass to Carson Sharbaugh to tie the game at 7.
The tie didn’t last long. Just over a minute later, the Bison ran a flea-flicker and quarterback Brock Jensen found Justin Vraa for a 46-yard pass to put the Bison up 14-7. It was a play that was identical to the one that the Penguins were burned on against Albany in Week 3.
At the end of the first quarter, NDSU is driving. The Penguin defense at some point needs to make a stop, or else it’s going to be a long day for the Penguins.
First quarter, 14-7.
