Shootout at Stambaugh

September 22, 2012 - Dana Sulonen
If the first quarter is an indication on how this night is going to turn out, it's going to be a shootout at Stambaugh Stadium.

The Youngstown State offense looks fluid and unstoppable so far, with a great mix of play calling. On the first drive of the game, the Penguins drove 73 yards in 12 plays, finishing with a 3-yard touchdown run by running back Jamaine Cook.

But UNI answered right back. It only took the Panthers a few plays, with a lot of passing by quarterback Sawyer Kollmorgen, to even the score at 7.

Youngstown State answered back, and on the next drive quarterback Kurt Hess connected with Andrew Williams on a play-action pass.

The YSU defense did stop UNI on its next drive, but that was with the help of two big UNI penalties that set them back.

This game is going to be high scoring if the defenses don't start getting some stops.

End of 1st quarter, YSU 14-7.
