BEREA -- New Browns owner James Haslam III said during a meeting with members of Cleveland City Council that he would be in favor of putting a retractable roof on Cleveland Browns Stadium.
That bold plan indicates what the Browns might expect when he's officially approved as owner next month. Haslam has shown a hands-on mentality from the moment the deal was finalized to purchase the team from Randy Lerner. He's on the field before games and was in the press interview room following the opening-game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
There have to be plenty of nervous employees around the building, including coach Pat Shurmur. Shurmur faces what could be the biggest week of his tenure as coach. If the Browns lose to the Buffalo Bills, it's likely they will follow with losses to the Ravens and Giants. Being 5-0 with the Bengals coming into town could doom his chances of returning in 2013.
It goes without saying that president Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert could also be on hot seats. Holmgren, in particular, could be out the door within a couple of months if Haslam, as expected, brings in former Eagles president Joe Banner.
INJURY NEWS: Tight end Alex Smith didn't practice Wednesday. Smith suffered a concussion last Sunday against the Bengals.
Defensive linemen Juqua Parker and Billy Winn both practiced. Winn suffered what was called a head injury (concussion) and Parker was carted off the field with a sprained foot against the Bengals.
CAPTAINS: Center Alec Mack has been selected as the fourth captain for Sunday's game. The selection was made by regular captains D'Qwell Jackson, Joe Thomas and Phil Dawson.
