Movie stuff: From `Nemo’ to `Nobama’ doc to `Lincoln' trailer

September 14, 2012 - Andy Gray
In my column Thursday, I wrote about my love of “Finding Nemo” and my loathing of 3D.

Well, at least one area theater will give audiences a chance to enjoy one of Pixar’s best films on a big screen without those annoying glasses.

The 4:45 p.m. screening each day at Shenango Valley Cinemas in Hermitage, Pa., is in traditional 2D, according to the schedule it emails subscribers. All “Nemo” screeenings at Regal theaters in Trumbull and Mahoning counties are in 3D, according to Fandango.

Also, the documentary “2016 Obama’s America” has moved up to number two on the list of top-grossing documentaries of all time. According to the website Box Office Mojo, it’s earned about $27.6 million in theaters so far.

However, it’s down to one screening a day at local theaters, meaning it has no chance of earning even a third of the total raked in by Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which grossed $119 million in 2004.

The filmmakers still have turned a tidy profit. And they still have a chance of accomplishing something Moore didn’t. Despite its box-office success, George W. Bush still was re-elected in 2004. I’m guessing co-directors/co-writers Dinesh D’Souza and John Sullivan will settle for number two on the political documentary chart if they get the outcome they desire in November.

For something less partisan, click the link on the right to check out the trailer for Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln," which opens in November.
