Short day of work

August 22, 2012 - Mike McLain
BEREA -- Browns cornerback Joe Haden was kicked out of practice Wednesday by coach Pat Shurmur for being too physical with receiver Travis Benjamin.

The play occurred early in the session. Benjamin caught a pass on a post route in front of Haden near the goal line. Haden was late trying to break up the pass. With his left hand in front of Benjamin and his right hand behind the rookie receiver, Haden followed through with a full-speed tackle.

Shurmur reacted angrily to Haden's physicality. The two shouted at each other before Shurmur ordered Haden off the field.

"I'm not going to talk about it," Shurmur said. "That's between me and the player. I have a great deal of respect for Joe. If you want details, you're going to have to find it on twitter. My only apology is I used bad language and the fans were here to see it. Joe is a great player and I appreciate what he does and who he is."

Receiver Josh Cribbs downplayed the incident.

"It's boys being boys," Cribbs said. "It's football. That's the nature of football. We love it. They hug and make up. We're about to win games, and that's what we need to win games."
