Nothing new

August 28, 2011 - Mike McLain
BEREA -- As expected, guard Eric Steinbach didn't participate in practice Sunday as the Browns began preparations for their final preseason game Thursday against the Chicago Bears.

Steinbach is dealing with a disk injury in his back. He hopes rehab will allow him to play, but it's possible that he might have to go on season-ending injured reserve.

The news is better on receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, who's missed most of camp with a foot injury. Massaquoi participted in Sunday's practice and might be able to play against the Bears.

It's important for Massaquoi to get in some time with quarterback Colt McCoy before the regular season begins. He's being counted on to team with Joshua Cribbs as one of the starter.

Rosters don't have to be reduced from 90 to 80 players until Tuesday, but the Browns got a head start Sunday by waiving eight players. They are defensive linemen Kyle Anderson and Jabari Fletcher; defensive backs Darian Hagan and Brett Johnson; receivers Johnathan Haggerty and Juan Nunez; quarterback Troy Weatherhead and kicker Jeff Wolfert.
