Packard Music Hall was early on `Chelsea Lately'

As a concert promoter, timing is everything.
The usual pitfall is jumping on the bandwagon too late, booking an act that is the flavor of the month when the tour is marketed. Then, when it’s time to put tickets on sale, the promoter realizes the audience has moved on to the next big thing. Promoters selling Jonas Brothers’ tickets last year had a much easier time than the venues that are slashing prices and offering other deals to try to sell JoBro tickets this summer.
But sometimes promoters discover an act before the general public does. That appears to be what happened with Packard Music Hall and comedian Chelsea Handler, host of the E! series “Chelsea Lately.”
PMH booked the comedian for a show in 2007 and did OK – but not great -- with it, selling about 1,100 tickets. A year later, she was selling out theaters in Cleveland, and now she’s making the jump to arenas.
Live Nation announced this morning that Handler will perform Dec. 4 at Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center. Tickets are $75 and $55 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster.
Local comedy fans had a chance to see her in a venue a fraction of the size for half the price.
