Trumbull County gets first 3D screen

October 28, 2009 - Andy Gray
While “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” is the big opening this week (my review will be in Thursday’s Ticket), the big movie news locally is that Trumbull County finally has a theater that can show 3D movies.

Regal Cinemas’ Boulevard Centre in Niles has equipped one of its 14 screens with the necessary projection equipment, and Tuesday was its first day in business.

The theater currently is showing the “Toy Story”/“Toy Story 2” double bill, and I’m guessing Disney’s animated “Christmas Carol” will be opening there on Nov. 7.

I’m still not sold on the 3D experience, but I’m in favor of seeing a movie the way the filmmaker intended it to be seen. And more and more films are being conceived and produced so that the technology is integral to the storytelling.
