What a sad day when our school board sits back and says a ticket received by a principal isn’t a factor in her job performance. Initially it wasn’t, but then she thought she was above the rules. She is responsible for all that happened. Her job performance, which includes setting an example, was certainly poor. Every one knows what happened — that she had a lack of respect for the disabled and the law. The board should have instructed an apology from her to the officer and the school community.

Poor Warren snow plowing has little to do with old trucks and lack of salt. While there is definitely a shortage of manpower in the operations department, the biggest problem is poor training. How does someone hit 11 mailboxes on one street? After the first one, wouldn’t you avoid hitting 10 more? Maybe it was the same guy who mowed over 1,000 pinwheels! Time to get some fresh supervision in there.

What did this government shutdown accomplish? Nothing! Congress must pass Sen. Warner’s bill denying pay to Congress during shutdowns. A February shutdown is unlikely, as there will be no reward. A few men in Congress, personally responsible for foiling action to resolve the immigration issue as it was the on the verge of passage, must look in the mirror as deserved heaps of blame are thrust upon them. They will go down with “do nothings” responsible in the 1800s for leadup to the Civil War. No meaningful congressional action since 1990 really!

All elected officials should have term limits — not just the president. If you have held office for 8 or 12 years and haven’t accomplished your goals or those of your constituents, it’s time to move on. Perfect example: Tim Ryan and Michael O’Brien. After so many years living off taxpayer money, move on and get a real job like hardworking people must do. Try getting your hands dirty. Then they would have appreciation of their constituents.

Thanks to the Warren police and fire departments and to Birds in Flight Sanctuary for saving Scarlett, our beloved neighborhood swan that was hit by a car crossing Market Street. We look forward to her return and pray for her recovery.

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan has jumped to conclusions before reviewing all the facts, embarrassing his district by condemning a group of young men, on a high school field trip to our Capitol, of egregious and unacceptable behavior. Shameful that you see these youths’ behavior as such! I thought they showed great restraint. I’m not sure I could have, with someone yelling and drumming in my face after being taunted with lude, racist remarks! Will Ryan be the first to apologize?

I did not see anyone object when Barack Obama sent pallets of money, $1.8 billion, to Iran by executive order without congressional approval. But when President Trump will do an executive order to project American citizens from drug cartels, etc., liberals say NO! We have no idea who is coming into America illegally. Why have the Hollywood elites not left the U.S. like they said they would if Trump were elected? I guess they don’t want to live in socialist countries, yet they want us to be socialist. Go figure.

I look around my township neighborhood and see our road department workers busily cleaning roads and ditches, putting drain pipes in and smoothing over to make a nice lawn, free of charge and basically cleaning up the mess of others. Would you believe when I see the delinquent tax list in the paper that many of these folks are on it? Why not have to pay your taxes before using / receiving taxpayer benefits?

Shame on the motorist from Girard who was speeding in a school zone in Howland and photo ticketed! Look in a mirror and think of the thousands of drivers passing through Girard who experience the same thing. No fair? You bet!

Snow plows have a job to do. If you must travel this winter, use extreme caution. Clean your vehicle of all snow. Preheat your vehicle to defrost windows and mirrors. Give yourself enough time, and leave early. Drive with your headlights on. Steer in the opposite direction of a slide. Slow down way ahead of stopping. We care. Stay alert and arrive alive.
