Report solutions, not just complaints

DEAR EDITOR:

Early in life I was taught if you point out a problem, be prepared to suggest a solution. Otherwise keep it to yourself. I’ve also heard it said, “Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.” These are wise words that are relevant today in many ways. Other quotes come to mind: “We’re all in the same boat,” and “United we stand, divided we fall.”

Today’s newspaper, television and social media are rife with opinionated people. It would be refreshing to hear the whiners and complainers put forth some solutions to America’s challenges instead of the constant criticism of the ideas put forward by others.

Our elected officials and politicians are the worst. A gaggle of entitled, pretentious men and women who love nothing more than to hear themselves speak, are offered every opportunity by the media to indulge in their favorite pastime.

I am finished supporting any politician that complains and offers no plan. I am tired of hearing criticism and negative sound bites from those who are supposed to represent me when they have nothing constructive to offer.

News media, please do all Americans a favor and start demanding that those you interview offer solutions when they criticize and complain. And accurately report the responses. Stop feeding the fire of controversy in order to sell advertising space. You used to speak for the people. You can again.
