Vote no on Bazetta levy

DEAR EDITOR:

At the May 22 regular Bazetta township trustees meeting, I asked that trustees revisit the use of traffic cameras.

This one-sided conversation can be seen on the Bazetta Township website. The only response from the trustees was thanking me for my concerns. When asked if he could use more money for roads, the road supervisor responded, “Yes.”

The main reason I addressed trustees is police officer safety. The secondary reason is revenue. Police are injured or worse killed everyday stopping vehicles on the side of busy highways. There has been considerable debate on the use of enforcement by cameras. This should not hinder the trustees from using them. The standard practice in enforcing the speed limit 9 mph over the posted speed limit with the exception of a school zone. We no longer have a school zone in Bazetta.

The trustees turned a deaf ear to my request to revisit traffic cameras, probably because they knew they were going to put a levy on the ballot. Until all efforts are exhausted to obtain monies from other sources than the property owners, no levy should be sought. Please vote no on the Bazetta levy.
